    Description

Wow, what a find!  This is Lady Grumpy – a composition doll made by Effanbee Doll Company in 1920’s.  The head, arms and hands and legs are composition; the body is firmly stuffed cloth.  Her face is nicely painted but with her worried look and she has mohair wig that is worn parted in the center with pinned up pigtail in back.  She is dressed in gray Amish Costume – flannel petticoat, white cotton pantalettes, gray long sleeve 2-part dress with gray apron and shoulder shawl.  Her cap is white organdy.  Socks are white ribbed cotton and the shoes are black oilcloth with ribbon ties.  During the 1930’s there was a woman in Pennsylvania who dressed these dolls in Mennonite and Amish costumes and I believe this may be one of those dolls. This doll came to me from a local estate – the doll looks to have never been played with and is in excellent condition.
